God’s ultimate goal for our lives as Christians is for us to be conformed to the image of his Son (Rom 8:29). Regardless of the importance and intrinsic value of cultivating the Christian character qualities in Peter’s list, we should not think of them as ends in themselves. Rather, they are means toward the end of greater usefulness in the Christian life. Literally, they keep us from being “do-nothings” and “fruitless” as we grow into knowing our Lord Jesus
